Welcome to my Field Journal…

Here you’ll find some of my projects, presentations, and notes from my adventures out and about “in the field” near and far. A glimpse into my geoscience story, one entry at a time.

Kicked off spring break assisting Dr. Vendrasco’s GEOL 1F trip to explore Owen’s Valley and various locales on and off the 395.

Petrified Forest & Painted Desert - it’s wild to think that this area was a river delta millions of years ago, even crazier to see how these trees are now rocks. Pretty cool place. Bonus pictures of @ethan__is__hungry with his infamous peanut butter delight sandwich, and myself with @art_magik (two former Dana Club Presidents).

Made it all the way up to Cathedral Rock just in time for sunset. Managed to snap these photos before my phone died AND made it back down before it got too dark 😅 short but steep hike with a fun sandstone crack to shimmy up and back down. @christophcoomb and I marveled at all the people with the wrong type of footwear trying to make it up - the struggle was REAL for them 😂

Had a quick weekend trip to Death Valley last month helping out @the_billyjack with his research cohort. Of all the times I’ve gone previously, I had never hiked Mosaic Canyon - glad I got to catch a glimpse of it this trip! So many cool contacts, folds, foliation, and plenty -o-breccia.

Dana Club day trip to Amboy Crater & Dish Hill. To say it was windy is an understatement 💨 …still a good time as always ⛏️

When things feel overwhelming, I tend to go spend time in nature to gain a better perspective. A holiday weekend after the big election seemed like the perfect opportunity to escape to the Grand Canyon, so we did. Blake had never been, and it was also Indy’s 11th bday, so I took them to my favorite spot (IYKYK). It was 22 degrees with a bit of snow off the trail, and totally worth the morning view.

Just got back from driving Dr. Vendrasco’s Oceanography Field Study across the central coast of California. Learned about Elephant Seals, picked out serpentine pebbles from the shore, and camped in the tree line by the shore at the Rancho Marino Reserve. Always a great time with good people 🙌🏼

In between conference sessions we found some time to escape to the redwoods near campus. So gorgeous and serene, just what we needed - we even saw banana slugs!

Had an amazing time at the APCG Conference in Arcata, CA this past weekend. I had the opportunity to present my first solo poster in GIS on the spatial analysis of liquefaction zones and economic disparity in Los Angeles County. Also had some wonderful interactions, met some amazing people, and attended some really great presentations. Most of all I was proud to help represent @pcc_geography at such an intimate conference.
BIG thanks to Professors Presiado, Agredano, Wallace, and White for all of the support and guidance that went into this and also to APCG for the opportunity, food, and travel grant!
See you all next year in SCV!!

Grains through time…
I share smaller, more frequent updates on my Instagram page called @you.rock.rock - here you can follow my adventures out in the field, near and far; for school and for fun. You will also find that I post quite frequently about the wonderful individuals I meet along the way and the community we’ve created through our shared love for Adventure, Exploration, and Geoscience.
